20 Things I Learned by 20 Years Old

20. Two, zero… a.k.a. the end of my teen years, the years I treasured and contain within them some of my greatest and most joyful memories. As I looked forward to entering a new decade this past December, those numbers loomed in front of me.

The 20s promise freedom and exciting new choices. But, these choices have the power to define a lifetime. What career will you chose, who will you marry, will you have kids, where will you live….

AND, there is so much added pressure to make these choices RIGHT away.

Although these thoughts raced through my head in my last days of being 19, I also couldn’t help spending moments reminiscing on all the joy and all the the lesson learning those years brought me. So sisters, here you have it. 20 things I learned by the time I was 20 years old, and how each of these shaped me into being the person I am today.

  1. God will NEVER let you down on the promises he’s made you. Hold tightly to them, and even in the waiting, know that he will not let you down.

  2. Everyone who comes into your life is meant to be there, whether it’s just for a season or forever. ALWAYS cherish the moments you have with them, because you never know when your last may be.

  3. Serve with a happy heart, even when it means sacrificing of yourself.

  4. The valleys in life make the hills that much greater.

  5. Listen to what God’s telling you ALWAYS, he has a perfect plan for you that you can only experience if you surrender the pen and let him be the author of your story.

  6. Sometimes it seems like every part of your life is crumbling beneath you, but one thing ALWAYS remains steady and that’s HIM.

  7. Forgiveness is ALWAYS the answer, and it will ALWAYS set you free.

  8. Instead of focusing on all of the losses in your life, try looking at all of things you’ve gained amidst the hurt instead. I promise you’ll be abundantly surprised at how much more you gain than lose, even without realizing it.

  9. Cherish the moments you get with your family, for you only have so long living together in one place.

  10. God makes many promises to us, and he longs to offer us all of the amazing things life has to offer. But, if those promises come from a pipe and flow into us, if the pipe is clogged with anger, a hard heart, bitter feelings, etc., then we cannot receive all he has.

  11. Sometimes, it’s just not your time yet. Be okay with where God has you, because when you look back, you might just miss the place you’re in now, and see ALL the good that overflowed in it.

  12. Anything IS possible if you work hard enough and invite God into it.

  13. It’s never a bad thing to cut people out of your life who weren’t in it for the right reasons.

  14. Asking God for discernment, wisdom, and peace before entering any situation will change your life.

  15. Some people are only meant to be in a chapter of your story.

  16. In the lowest of valleys, it’s okay to be sad and not have full assurance. But, always pick yourself back up, and be ready and receptive to trying to move on, because eventually you WILL.

  17. Blessings can be found in the most unexpected places.

  18. NEVER underestimate the power of a good cry.

  19. Find that one person, that best friend, who you know is never gonna leave your side, and never let them go.

  20. Drives alone are cleansing for the soul. Wanna think things through, wanna gain perspective, need to clear your head? Go on a drive, I promise you’ll come back better than you were before.

I hope you find comfort, wisdom, joy, or whatever it is you’re searching for in these lessons as I have. I’m praying for you always.

With all of my love,

xoxo.
